The Halloween journey

The Halloween journey

Looking at the costumes the children are wearing I see witches, ghosts and skeletons to name a few. I notice a representation of the dark side, the shadows and the scarier the better.

I have decided to ask others about what is their story about Halloween? What does it mean to them?

One was about a tradition in Mexico, a day of celebration and an honoring of the dead, a ceremony of bringing food and flowers to cemeteries.

Another was about the night of the rising of the dead that come back once a year to the house they used to live in before their passing, here the scary costumes were meant to scare them away in effort to protect their homes.

A third story was about ridiculing the scariest thing of all -death itself, as a way of facing your fears.

The forth one is my favorite, it talks about the rising of those spirits who are stuck between worlds and this holiday is about supporting their journey to cross over to the light.

The fourth story touched something within me and I decided to look deeper within. My exploration practice has thought me through the years to use the world as it is presented to me, as a mirror image for myself.

And when I look around me and see shadows, darkness and scary images I look within and ask myself:

Can I see any shadows?

Do I know them?

Am I comfortable with their presence?

A few things have presented themselves and I decided to just look at them, allow them to be and accept the idea of them being a part of me and at the same time allow myself to relax with all that, remembering to breath and reassuring myself that I am safe, remembering that even with all that I am ok.

Halloween has now become a meaningful celebration for me; on Halloween I will pause and focus my attention towards my dark side, my shadows, acknowledge, accept and offer them release, a sending towards the light.

I look forward to the next Halloween to make this practice a tradition.

Blessings...
